Ministry of Education and Culture (2017) Amrizal
(2021: 5418), Since ancient times, literacy has been part of human life and
development, from prehistoric times to modern times. In prehistoric times,
humans only read natural signs to hunt and defend themselves. They wrote
symbols and amber of their prey on the cave walls. Along with changing times,
the standard of human life has developed, from not knowing writing to giving
birth to the idea of creating codes with numbers and letters so that humans
are said to be creatures capable of thinking. This thinking ultimately gave
birth to a culture. The process of literacy development began with the
introduction of writing, which at that time used parchment as a medium for
writing. Parchment is a stationery substitute for paper made from animal skin
(such as sheep, goats, or containers). Parchment was usually used for book
pages, codexes, or manuscripts used by people around the world around 550 BC.
Digital
literacy is the user's knowledge and skills in utilizing digital media, such as
communication tools, internet networks and so on. Digital literacy is the
interest, attitudes and abilities of individuals who directly use digital
technology and communication tools to access, manage, integrate, analyze and
evaluate information, build new knowledge, create and communicate with others
in order to participate effectively in society. Dea Julia Ningsi Sereger, (2017
) Nurlaini, Handayani.T Sofyan.F.A, Sunardi (2022: 700).)
Hague (2010:2)
Ulum.B, Fantiro.F.A, Rifa'i.M.N, (2019: 25) stated that digital literacy is the
ability to create and share in different circumstances and forms in order to
collaborate and communicate more effectively, and understand how and when
digital technology is best used to create these processes. Thus, it can be
concluded that the characteristics of digital literacy do not only refer to
operating skills and using various information technology and communication
technology devices (hardware and software platforms), but also to the process
of "reading" and "understanding" the contents of
technological devices and processes. create” and “write” into new knowledge.
Muhasim
(2017: 57) Digital technology is not something new and came suddenly, but has
been in process since the 80s, so that until now the 21st century is called the
digital era. In this era, the use of digital technology has become a necessity,
not only for adults, but also for teenagers, even minors are familiar with the
name Android cell phone (HP). Using digital devices using Google, Yahoo, Blog,
email, we can see a window to the world. Educational personnel who are
qualified as teachers, lecturers, counselors, tutors, lecturers, tutors,
instructors, facilitators, and other titles appropriate to their specialty, and
students, can very easily find the teaching materials they need. In the 21st
century, digital technology is becoming increasingly important, and triggers
student motivation, so that they have learning and innovation skills. Skills in
using digital technology help to obtain information more quickly and improve
life skills as working capital, and educators can easily develop learning materials
. Digital technology is a necessity in the world of education today, it has
been proven that it has been adapted by the Ministry of Education and Culture
of the Republic of Indonesia to develop a new curriculum and online system and
develop education towards a Creative Indonesia in 2045. The adaptation is
carried out to achieve suitability of the concept with the capacity of students
and the competence of educators and staff. his education.
In
the article, Mr. Santosa says that innovative and massive technological
developments have had the effect of disrupting the order of human life. The era
of technological disruption has both good and bad impacts. Negative impacts
that can affect students and everyone are: Cyber Bullying, crime,
pornography, bad communication, threats of hate speech, emotional and physical
disturbances to children, the habit of sharing secrets Sunarto, PhD, (2017)
Waruwu. W, (2021 : 56)
Pristiwanti.D,
Badariah. B, et al, (2022:7912) Education is "a conscious and planned
effort to create an atmosphere of learning and learning so that students
actively develop their potential to have religious spiritual strength, self-control,
personality, intelligence, noble morals and the skills they need and society”.
The definition from the Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI) is that the word education
comes from the word 'didik' and has the suffix 'pe' and the suffix 'an', so
this word has the meaning of a method, method or act of guiding. Teaching can
be defined as a way of changing ethics and behavior by individuals or society
in an effort to realize independence in order to mature or mature humans
through education, learning, guidance and coaching.
POSITIVE EFFECT
The development of
digital technology in education must also be supported by all elements of
education, namely the government, school principals, teachers and the
community. The educational policies that have been made must be adhered to by
school officials, both school principals and teachers. If the facilities and
infrastructure support this learning, the most important thing is human
resources, namely teachers. The teacher is the milestone in the success of this
learning. In delivery, teachers must use varied media/methods/strategies, so
that students do not feel bored. Teachers must also be able to provide
innovation to students, so that students become more motivated in learning. The
development of digital technology can be developed by teachers in creating
learning content that is varied and still educational. Digital technology
learning can be integrated with other learning by creating digital learning
content, such as educational games, learning quizzes, and other educational
content. Learning is not only done at close range, but can be done remotely via
virtual video conference or what is usually called online learning. Therefore,
creating digital learning content must be in accordance with the teaching
process carried out by the teacher. This is in line with research conducted by
Surani which states that the existence of facilities to utilize technology in
educational institutions can facilitate the teaching and learning process and
other non-academic activities such as administration which will later improve
the quality of learning Surani et al., (2019, p.468) Ambarwati.D, Wibowo.U.B,
et al, (2020:175)
NEGATIVE EFFECT
Related to the
existence of the highest level of internet penetration in the 13-18 year age
group where the extent of digitalization also has a negative impact on
students. This can be seen from the existence of students who use social media
excessively, namely using social media when studying.
takes place thereby
reducing students' focus on learning and affecting students' mastery of the
material. Apart from that, student ethics when using digital communication
media such as WhatsApp or Telegram when contacting their teachers is also still
lacking. There are still students who contact teachers not at the appropriate
time and are still impolite in their use of words. In the article, Mr. Santosa
says that innovative and massive technological developments have had the effect
of disrupting the order of human life. The era of technological disruption has
both good and bad impacts. Negative impacts that can affect students and
everyone are: Cyber Bullying, crime, pornography, bad communication, threats
of hate speech, emotional and physical disturbances to children, the habit of
telling secrets (Sunarto, PhD, 2017) Widarman Waruwu (2021: 51) .
Children don't
socialize with their friends, reduce interaction between each other, children
easily access pornographic videos, there is irresponsible news (hoaxes),
bullying through technology can bring down children's mental health, children
also forget to do the assignments given by the teacher.
The
influence of poor literacy in self-disclosure through social media on the
psychology of children and teenagers tends to be used to insulting other
people, giving rise to jealousy towards others, resulting in depression, being
carried away by negative comments, and getting used to speaking in impolite
language (Pratiwi and Pritanova, 2017) Siti Nasiroh, (2022: 11) the negative
impact of the presence of digital technology on Islamic boarding school
education patterns affects the interaction and learning patterns of students
where the muwajjahah (face to face) tradition in learning, the istimbat
tradition (looking for references) through turast books it will be replaced by
the tradition of googling and face to screen or the tradition of looking at layer
